March of the Fairy Penquins
Every evening, just after sunset, hundreds of fairy penquins come ashore on Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia. The penquins spend each day at sea and return to their ground nests. This, not very good, picture is my own. Fairy penquins stand about twelve inches high and their nesting habit makes them very vulnerable to predators such as foxes, dogs and feral cats, all imports into Australia, as well as the native seagulls and Tasmanian devils. As it is not allowed to photograph them on their way overland to their nests, I didn't take any. However, you can visit the penquin sanctuary website and see some lovely videos. This little song was inspired by my visit to Phillip Island.
